Lords of Narnia

Introduction

The Golden Age of Narnia ended many years ago, but the lives of its inhabitants continue. King Ram of Archenland has decreed that the borders of Narnia are to be secured against outside threats. Into this territory they send their emissaries, tasking them with subduing the lawless folk and deadly creatures that have made it a land of savagery and shame. Beyond that rugged frontier stretches the home of voracious monsters, capricious faeries, wily natives, and bandits who bow to the rule of a merciless lord none dare defy. Can these capable Narnians survive the Stolen Lands, bring their dangers to heel, and lay the foundations of a new outpost for a new land? Or will they just be one more fateful band, lost forever to the ravenous wilds?

The Charter

“Be it so known that the bearer of this charter has been charged by Ram the Great, King of Archenland, Lord Steward of Narnia, acting upon the greater good and authority vested within him by the Great Lion Himself, has granted the right of exploration and of establishing settlement within the western wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. To this end, the bearers are to fortify the western borders of Narnia, setting up a defensible outpost to watch over the Western Wilds, from the Great Cliffs to the mountains beyond. The carriers of this charter shall also strive against banditry, the servants of darkness, hostile incursions from Giants, and any other unlawful behaviour to be encountered. Punishment and mercy are in the hands of these bearers, so may they rule justly as my proxies. So it is witnessed on this 24th day of April, under watchful eyes of King Ram the Great, servant of the Great Lion Aslan, and of His Father, the Great Emperor Overseas.”

First Session

The travel was long, but in time, the group arrived at Oleg’s Trading Post. Svetlana Leveton warmly welcomed you and fed you, while Oleg Leveton worked on fixing the roof of the guest quarters.

Svetlana told the group about some of the bandit problems that the area has been having, and more specifically, that a group of bandits has been visiting the trading post every month demanding an increasingly harsh tribute. Moreover, that the bandits would be here the very next morning.

The party ambushed the bandits (a hobgoblin archer and a group of 8 goblins), defeating them to a man. Svetlana was struck by a malicious arrow from the hobgoblin, but recovered shortly. The party have made some strong connections here, and found a base for their exploration.

2nd Session: All this for Radishes?

Continuing from where we left off last time, the party finished cleaning and patching up themselves and Svetlana. The Levetons were thrilled with the outcome of the battle, and promised a reward even beyond free room and board to their saviors. A short while later, they prepared themselves to start their larger task.

The party began their exploration proper, with the following characters in attendance:
Alain
Asteron
Kavaki
Romeus

Upon exploring the edge of the forest thoroughly, they came across a Radish Patch, occupied by a group of gluttonous goblins. Asteron made an attempt at diplomacy, which was ill received, though graciously offered. A brawl broke out, and the goblins were removed permanently from the site, without major incident.

Meanwhile, while the party was out exploring, a small group of Narnian creatures and soldiers have come to the trading post, eager to help in whatever capacity seems right.

OOC: The fight illustrated to me how quickly a group of skirmishers can whittle away health when they can surround a group and i roll decently. Tonight was also the first try at hosting an online player, something which we were all pleased with and will be excited to try again!

3rd Session: Discretion: the better part of Valor

The party was properly introduced to the leader of the Narnian soldiers that have come at the behest of King Ram to aid the characters. Kesten Garess greeted the characters, and pledged his aid to further the charter. Exploring further, the party pressed further into the Greenbelt and had the following encounters.

The Thorn River Bandit Camp, further southwest into the forest, was inhabited by several bandits that seemed to be led by a mysterious cloaked Hobgoblin who spoke of the “Green Witch” as he leveled his sorcerous power against the characters. After defeating the bandits, one of the goblins was captured and told the group of the mysterious Stag Lord, and gave directions to his Fort.. The party also found some valuables buried within one of the tents, Furs and supplies worth 420gp, a healing potion, and 110gp in coin. The party also found a magical map amidst the spoils, a Map of Unseen Lands. The Rickety Bridge was further along, and the keen eyes of several members told that the bridge couldn’t possibly hold more than one of the larger ones at any time. Next up was the remains of the bridge known as Nettle’s Crossing. When the sign was read and the little bell was rung, an unquiet corpse came walking on the water over to the group, stating his demand before he would allow anyone to cross the river.

Following the conjunction of the two rivers further southwest, the party saw the Stag Lord’s Fort – but were hesitant to explore too closely during daylight hours. They decided to head back by a slightly different route, so as to explore and map more of the Greenbelt.

On their way back, they came across a dense Fangberry Thicket in a valley between two low hills. A fairly large population of Chew Spiders were seen however, and the party decided to come back for the berries when they were better equipped.

Pressing southeast, back into the forest, the party happened across the lair of a Dire Boar and his consort. This turned out to be the Lair of none other than the fearsome Tuskgutter, but they fought valiantly and managed to rid the Greenbelt of this menace.

The party returned to Oleg’s (and a good thing too, for there were far more postings and rumors waiting for them. Nearly two weeks in, and a sizable chunk of land explored and mapped (who’s doing the mapping? – we should work that out..). Taking a new approach, and at Fiddenmar’s suggestion, they decided to explore out from the trading post, rather than striking deeply into the Greenbelt one stretch at a time.
Several days and miles were mapped out, helped in large part by their new magical map, before there was any real interaction. On the fourth day, a large Spider’s Nest was discovered.

Though they were many, the party defeated them handily, reducing the threat that travelers might face from such accomplished hunters.

(OOC: Felt like a train wreck there, for my part. Sorry – better organized next time!)
